On the trail of a coaster

Crochet coasters and patterns for said coasters seems to be coming out of the woodwork lately.
Its not something I have ever made but some are tempting me.....
Here is a round up of the ones that caught my eye.
Remember if you don't crochet its a great project to begin with, it needs one ball of yarn and an easy to buy hook, so here goes:

I love this cute pattern from made-in-k-town.blogspot

There are literally hundreds of free patterns out there and as you can see they don't have to be something your granny used to drag out on a sunday! Think of the colour combos and possibilities, and its a step closer to the mother of all doilies.... and something I plan to make very soon....

This

So have a go, check out You tube for some great video tutorials and link back what you created!
But most of all.... HAVE FUN!

I had a go!

So I dragged my poor sewing machine out and had a go at the Martha tutorial!
Now my machine is a victim of abuse, he has sewn chipboard and paper all of his poor life and I can hear him screaming when he sees me coming. So it was hit and miss if he would like plastic vinyl!

I did treat him to a service last month and pretended to be astounded when the mechanic told me that my machine really needed cleaning as it was full of random pieces of patterned paper.... now where that came from I do not know?....:)

So machine check
Non slip foot check
funky patterned scrap paper check
Vinyl check
Popper check.........

And here is my result!

Sewing on plastic took some patience and the instructions were not that clear. it helped to have the video of the Martha show running whilst I was trying to figure out the next step.
There is a lot of work in this and it was not for a novice stitcher but it gave me some great ideas for future projects.

Have a go, it was a lot of fun and it definitely passed a rainy Dutch afternoon!
I can however still hear my sewing machine shaking in his case :)

A quick 20 minutes and a little scrap yarn and my old T-shirt is new!
I found a cute tutorial on lululoves and really it took 20 minutes. I am so in love with it, I see christmas gifts a plenty!
Try and have a go, its two basic stitches and the result is so pretty :)
The colour combos are endless so have a go.
Have fun!!

Sunny day & Martha Stewart

Its a sunny day today in neverland but because of a sun allergy I am not allowed outside:(.... so I am scouring the net for cute tutorials!
I came upon this one from Dear sukie.
She makes the cutest vinyl paper wallets using scrapbook paper!

She appeared on Martha Stewart last year so there is also a cool step by step video of her teaching Martha.
Most of us ex scrapbookers have a mountain of paper and the vinyl coating is easy to come by. All I need is a non slip foot and away I can go.
If you don't fancy making one yourself she has a great Etsy store here.
Happy sewing!

The girl returns

So I am back in the blogging world. Its been a long time, so we have a new blog, a new layout and a new theme..... but the name and the girl remain the same!
This will be a crafting and crocheting, contemplating and creating blog. I hope to include some tutorials and free patterns and downloads, peppered with the occasional contemplation!
